Carbon ( IV ) Oxides is also necessary raw materials in photosynthesis. The more Carbon ( IV ) Oxides In the photosynthetic cells the faster the rate of photosynthesis.
Water is an essential raw material for photosynthesis.
The light and dark reactions are controlled by enzymes. The low or high temperatures will negatively affect enzymes action, hence a decrease in the rate of photosynthesis.
The reduction of chlorophyll level decreases the rate of photosynthesis. High light Intensity, mineral deficiency diseases, and aging processes reduce chlorophyll concentration.
HIGH CONSCONCERNTRATION OF OXYGEN
A high concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere decreases the rate of photosynthesis.
It has been shown that oxygen competes with Carbon ( IV ) Oxides for an active site in the Carbon ( IV ) fixing enzyme ( carboxylase ), thus reducing the amount of Carbon ( IV ) Oxides, thereby decreasing the rate of photosynthesis.
Herbicides such as DCMU ( Dichlorophenyl dimethyl urea} inhibits the electron flow of the chloroplasts thereby decreasing the rate of photosynthesis.
Gases and materials of industrial waste discharged into the atmosphere also affect the rate of photosynthesis.
Sulphur ( IV } Oxides and ozones for example, damages the leaves of plants. Soot and dust particles block the stomata slowing down the rate of exchange of gases thus decreasing the photosynthesis rate.
Soot and dusts also reduce the intensity of sunlight, hence photosynthesis rate is reduced.
