Biography of late madam Eke EFFIONG ASUQUO.

Late madam Eke EFFIONG ASUQUO was born on 15th, February 1918 into the family of Nung Akpan Umoren of Nung Akpabio Work in Nung Emah family, Ikot Andem Itam in Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom state. Her mother was late Madam Ikwo Udo Ikong of Nung Akpafia family also in Ikot Andem Itam in itu local government area of Akwa Ibom state, she was the second child in that family of six comprising two males and females.

She had her primary education at church of Scotland missions school, now known as PCN School, West Itam 1, OBONG Itam in Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom state, and stopped at standard Two due to circumstances beyond control. Despite these challenges, Mama was able to read, write and communicate effectively in both English and Efik languages. Because of her fluency in reading, the Christian Missionary society in Nigeria made her the Efik Bible reader in their church, now known as the Presbyterian Church Of Nigeria.
MMA, Eke EFFIONG ASUQUO got married to an elegant, Tall, intelligent, loving, peaceful, handsome and God Fearing young man, Late Mr. EFFIONG ASUQUO Udo of Nung Ekwo Eka Inyang abia, Nung obio unek in Ikot Andem Itam in itu .
Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom state.
The marriage was blessed with six male children, five who are alive to bide her farewell today.

She was sociable, a good mixer and acceptable by any social group of people she had wished to belong to. A disciplinarian to the core, she stood for what was right and never celebrate evil. Mama ASUQUO was honest and transparent in all her dealings with all manner of people. Before she got married, she was a leading dancer in the then popular “Edop” dancing group.
Though her father didn’t accept her being in the dance group, she sometimes had to partake secretly in the dance through the support of her loving and only surviving younger brother, Elder Edet Akpan Umoren. She was noted as the woman around the community who dance about one kilometer around the village to celebrate the birth of her first granddaughter since she did not give birth to a female child. But today, her own fourteen (14) female grandchildren are gathered here to bide her farewell. To God be the Glory.
Mama was a vegetarian who preferred dried fish and stockfish to meat. She was strong, hardworking, kind, generous and hospitable.
Her peaceful disposition made many attracted to her home as she sheltered And fed them all without complaints. In fact, during the Nigerian – Biafran civil war, her home was turned to a refugee camp as those who were displaced from villages like Ukwok in Ikono Local government area and other place took refuge in her home and she accommodates
Them all until the war was over.
Eka Ikong was a successful subsistence farmer. With her farm products, she was able to feed all members of her family and others who found their way to her own. She was also engaged in pretty trading to further support her family financially. The trading business took her beyond the markets within the locality and other markets outside, like Itu market and Ikot Offiong market in Itu local government area and Ikpa and Afua markets in Ibiono Ibom local government area. She also trades in markets outside the state, like ikom market in Cross River State. It was on one of her market trips from Ikom in 1984 that she was involved in a ghastly motor accident that claimed many lives and got some of the vehicle occupants amputated, but our mother was among the few people lucky survivors in that ugly incident and she lived on to fulfil her God’s appointed time on earth..
EKE EFFIONG ASUQUO PROFILE
She was born into a Christian family that embraced the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria doctrines, but when she got married, she was converted and got baptized into Christ and became a member of the Body of Christ, the church of Christ. She was diligently in the teachings of Christ and kept the faith until death.
On Faithful evening on Monday, October 8, 2018, she peacefully transited to the great beyond to spend eternity with God her creator. Mama, we cannot question God about your departure because we have seen in the scripture that, “To everything, there is a season and a time to ever
